Alert message sent 25/02/2022 20:17:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Please be aware that we have had a number of incidents relating to messages being sent to mobile phones appearing to be from family members .

One message received read: Hi mum. I have changed my phone number I have changed my phone and cannot access my bank.

The message continued: Mum how are you I haven't been well for the last few weeks. The message then stated that they needed a favour as their online mobile banking cannot be accessed and that they need a bill paying and can they help them with this bill.

The suspect then sent the bank details of where to make the payment.

If you receive a message like this it is probably a scam. Ring your family members to confirm if they have sent such a message. If not then please report this to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
