Most burglaries are carried out by opportunist thieves, below are some ideas to prevent this happening to you.
  • When you go out, always lock the doors and windows and use and turn on any house and shed alarms.
  • Put your garden tools away, these items can provide an easy way to force entry to your house.
  • Make the house appear occupied, use light timers or leave the TV on.
  • Don't leave spare keys outside or keys in outbuilding/garage doors.
  • Keep keys away from the letterbox to stop burglars using the hook and cane method to steal them.
  • Don’t leave your bin out where they can be used as a climbing aid over a wall, fence or gate.
  • Have a neighbour check that milk bottles, parcels and post are not left outside or near the letterbox.
  • Consider investing in security lighting or CCTV
  • If your car has keyless entry, consider purchasing a faraday bag that blocks the signal preventing thieves from using the signal to get in to your car.
  • If you own a high powered/valued vehicle, please consider investing in a steering lock to deter thieves.

Kind Regards,
PCSO 21881 Hickman
