Be Water Aware

Alert message sent 22/07/2021 14:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Good afternoon,

Now that it's the school holidays I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you all to stay safe during this heatwave, particularly when it comes to open water.

We know it can be tempting to go for a dip in the hot weather, particularly for youngsters, but cooling off in rivers, canals, ponds, quarries and lakes can have deadly consequences.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging people, particularly children and teenagers, not to swim anywhere other than in purpose-built and supervised swimming pools unless they are members of an organised swimming group.

If you spot someone in trouble in the water, please use 999 to call Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for help.

IF YOU GET INTO DANGER IN THE WATER:
 - Don't struggle or panic
- Call for help and see if you can stand or see a way onto the bank
- If not, float on your back in a star shape (like a starfish) until help arrives

Please take care and stay safe everybody!

Kind regards,

PCSO Jess Street
Crewe North Police
