Fraud scam with Amazon accounts

Alert message sent 12/06/2021 14:37:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

THIS IS A SCAM please read and be mindful if you get a message like this.

I received an email from her account explaining that she had forgotten her niece's 18th birthday and needed to send her some Amazon gift vouchers - could I purchase vouchers to the value of £300 and send her copies of the activation codes for her to pass on? She explained she was unable to get the vouchers locally, which sounded plausible. I sent the codes as requested, the only security measure being to send the codes to a different email address I had for her in my address book. I subsequently received an email from her account thanking me for the voucher codes. On Tuesday morning I received a further message from her account with a fairly lengthy and credible rationale requesting voucher codes for a further £200, which I supplied. Today I received another request for a further £200.
These scams are becoming more sophisticated, please be more cautious.
