Catalytic Converters

Alert message sent 20/04/2021 13:26:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

The precious metal in catalytic converters has led to an increase in attempt thefts and thefts across the country.

Here are some steps you can take to try and protect your vehicle:

1. PROTECT - Ask your car dealer if they can give you any advice on locks or guards that are approved by the vehicle manufacturer and tested to Sold Secure Gold.

2. MARK - You should also register your catalytic converter and mark it with a forensic marker, which will make it harder for thieves to dispose of.

3. PARK - Try to make sure your vehicle is parked in a garage overnight, or if you have a commercial vehicle park it in a secure compound. If this isn’t possible, park in an area that’s well-lit and overlooked and try to park so that the converter can’t be easily reached by potential thieves. Vehicles that sit high above the road are particularly vulnerable.

If you are a victim of catalytic converter theft, call the police on 101. If you notice any suspicious activity around a vehicle, call the police using 999 (if believed necessary).
