Online Security

Alert message sent 14/12/2020 16:07:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

More people are doing their shopping online these days, so protecting yourself whilst online is very important.

There are lots of different scams both online, via post and telephone so everyone needs to be on the lookout for potential scams.

Never give out any personal information unless you are confident that you are dealing with legitimate people. It is always recommended that you contact businesses yourself in order to arrange any work that needs doing or use companies recommended by close family and friends.

When online consider using our five basic rules to stay safe online:

Create: a strong password using 3 random words or a sentence. Change some characters for symbols or numbers.

Cover: protect yourself from hackers by doing regular updates

Confidentiality: do not share passwords

Clicking: make sure before you click, make sure the source is genuine

Connection: never send personal information over public Wifi. Connect to Wifi using a code and only then from someone you trust

If you think you have been a victim of fraud then you can report this to Action Fraud UK at or by calling 0300 123 2040.
