Chester Park and Ride extended for the Lord Mayor's Fireworks Extravaganza
29 October 2019Cheshire West and Chester Council is working with Chester Racecourse to offer visitors an alternative to driving into the city centre for the Lord Mayor’s Firework Extravaganza, this Saturday 2 November.
The Park and Ride service will be extended, with buses running every 12 minutes until 9.46pm to Boughton Heath and 9.35pm to Upton (Zoo) and 9.59pm to Wrexham Road car parks.
Cllr Karen Shore, Deputy Leader of Council and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, commented: “We are working closely with our city centre partners to offer visitors and residents the choice to use public transport this Saturday, and the extension to the Park & Ride service provides a great alternative to struggling through the city in your car, on what will be a very busy evening.
“Passengers can also now use contactless payments on the buses, so saving time and hassle when they buy their day return tickets."
Speaking on behalf of Chester Racecourse, Stephanie Hughes, Head of Marketing, added: “We are delighted that the Park and Ride is being extended on Saturday evening for the fireworks event. It is going to be a magical evening, with lots happening for families.
“Hopping on the Park and Ride to Chester Racecourse helps reduce the congestion in the city and with kids under 16 years travelling free with adults, it’s a cost effective, easy way to get into the city.”
In addition to the fireworks on the night, members of the public can expect to find a fairground located across the track and plenty of food and beverage outlets from which to purchase drinks and snacks. The White Horse garden will be open to anyone with a ticket and feature a BBQ offering and fully stocked bar.
Purchase tickets to the Firework Extravaganza on Chester Races website or from the Chester Racecourse Box office: 01244 304 600.
