How to keep your property safe

Alert message sent 28/11/2020 18:18:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Residents are advised to take measures to protect their property from potential criminals. These actions need not be expensive or time consuming:
  • Place “beware of the dog” signs around your property
  • Cut back hedges and trees to remove hiding places
  • Fit sheds and gates with robust locks and bells (to alert when they have been opened)
  • Ask a neighbour to keep an eye on your house when you go out. Don’t advertise on social media when you are out of the house
  • Buy a signal-proof box or pouch for keeping keyless car fobs in
  • Consider buying a Ring doorbell or similar device that records when movement is detected. Put up CCTV signage
  • Join or set up a messaging group for your street so that information about suspicious activity can be shared. This could be via text message, WhatsApp or Facebook
  • Report suspicious activity to police by telephoning 101 or visiting our website. Call 999 in an emergency
You should always take time to ensure the following is completed whenever you leave the house or go to bed:
  • Lock all gates, garages and sheds. Place wheelie bins across your driveway
  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle and lock other items out of sight
  • Lock all doors and windows
  • Move all keys away from access points and put them in an obvious place; put keyless car fobs in a box and lock them away
  • Turn your security light on and leave a light on within your house
  • Set your house alarm
