Scam Alert

Alert message sent 17/09/2020 21:30:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
please see below information on a current scam.  Information supplied by Halton Trading Standards.
Spoofing of bank phone numbers
A Halton consumer has received a telephone call allegedly from their bank. When the consumer told the caller they were concerned it could be a scam, the caller said the telephone number they had called the consumer on was the same as on the back of the consumers bank card (it was). This is called number spoofing, scammers can pretend to be a particular telephone number to gain a consumers confidence and subsequently steal their banking and personal details.
Consumers should be wary of any telephone numbers calling them unexpectedly and asking for banking or personal information.

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
