Alert message sent 20/05/2020 21:16:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
apologies for the amount of emails at the moment relating to scams etc but the criminals  are trying what ever they can to get their hands on your money and I feel you should be made aware so we can do e everything we can to stop them.
Information supplied by Halton Trading Standards.

Video conferencing scam
With more a more people taking to video conferencing for both catching up with friends and family but also for work, scammers have also turned their attention to platforms such as Zoom.
Users of these platforms are receiving fake notification emails, which contain malicious links. These links then take the user to fake login pages designed to steal their details, which are subsequently used for identity theft.
Users should remain cautious when receiving an unexpected e-mail claiming to be from their video conference platform provider and should delete it or login via the platform’s website.

Bogus District Nurse in Halton
Halton Trading Standards have had reports of a bogus district nurse operating in Halton. The nurse arrived at a resident’s home in Widnes, stating they were there to check on the residents health, but firstly they wanted to use the residents bathroom. After appearing from the bathroom, the nurse stated they did not need to check the resident’s health and left the property. It is highly likely this was an attempted burglary.
Residents should be wary of carers/nurses turning up for non-scheduled visits and should always check the carers/nurses ID or ring the care provider, if they have any concerns about their authenticity.

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.

Many thanks
Paul
