Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
Please see attached 2 current scams.  Information supplied by Halton trading Standards.

Scam EE mobile network emails
Although the Coronavirus and the lockdown is on everyone’s minds at the moment, non-Coronavirus scams still keep coming in trying to dupe residents out of their money. An email, which suggests it is from EE is being sent, which it is not, it is a scam!
It is a poor attempt to try to mimic a genuine email from EE. It is not addressed to the individual just to ‘Customer’. Furthermore, the opening line doesn’t even make sense ‘Sorry for apologize  but it seems that some one has change your billing information and make we can't process your latest EE bill’.

Funeral Director Scam
Halton Trading Standards wants to make residents aware of a scam which has been happening within other areas of the North West, but has not been reported to have happened in Halton.
A person claiming to be from a Council’s Bereavement Service has called the family of someone who has recently deceased stating that their payment for the Funeral Director had been declined and that they would need to make another payment over the phone (using their debit/credit card). The caller claimed if the payment was not made they would cancel the funeral.
Sadly, scammers will do anything to get your money and this includes doing things that the rest of society consider morally appalling.

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
