SCAM AWARENESS Impersonating Police

Alert message sent 21/01/2020 08:35:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Good morning all,

We have had a number of reports of persons calling victims impersonating Police Officers, and asking their victims to assist with a covert investigation to catch corrupt banking staff.

Victims are asked to attend their local branch and withdraw a sum of up to £20,000. They are told to tell bank staff that this is for home improvements, loved ones etc.

The victim then returns home and the cash is collected by a courier fraudster, who are never seen again.

THIS IS A SCAM. Cheshire Police would never ask anyone to withdraw money as part of a covert investigation. Please be vigilant and report any suspicious behavour / attempted scams on 101 - Phone 999 if there are suspects present.

Kind regards,

Robbie
