Amazon Gift Card Scam

Alert message sent 25/09/2019 09:34:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

There has been a recent attempt to scam residents out of money. The offender/s will call a phone number, whereby they will then have a conversation with whoever answers the phone and offer to give them a large sum of money, in return for purchasing an Amazon (or similar), Gift Card. They ask the victim to buy a Gift Card to the value of something in the region of £200.00, return to their home address and wait for someone to call later in the day to collect it. The offenders tell the victim that upon collection of the Gift Card they will be "rewarded" by way of being given a cheque for £3,000.00. DO NOT ACT UPON THIS SCAM. Not only will you be defrauded out of money, you will be giving up vital details of yourself and your address. Please contact the police and Action Fraud with any details obtained if you are contacted in this way by any fraudsters.
