Celebrate The Great Get Together
24 April 2017The Great Get Together is taking place over the weekend of 17 and 18 June this year. The Big Lunch, Jo Cox Foundation and dozens of other groups have joined forces to invite people to come together with friends, neighbours and others they don’t know for street parties, picnics, barbecues and bake-off competitions. It follows the first anniversary of Jo Cox’s murder on 16 June last year. The event is expected to be the biggest event of its kind since the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and the weekend will be an opportunity to celebrate all that Britain’s diverse communities hold in common. Neighbours and community groups in West Cheshire are encouraged to join in this national event. The Council's Director of Place Operations, Maria Byrne, said: “Street parties are a great part of British life and are a wonderful opportunity for our communities to come together.” She added: “We have made organising a street party very simple, to find out how simply visit www.streetparty.org.uk and remember you may not always need a licence.” For more helpful tips, advice and support for organising a successful Great Get Together, visit www.greatgettogether.org The website also provides information about what is happening in your area and will encourage you to register your event.
