Cheshire West and Chester Council's Eat Well Be Active group officially launch Food Active's Healthy Weight Declaration 'Partner Pledge'

10 January 2020

The launch event for the Partner Pledge took place on Thursday 9 January, where the Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cllr Louise Gittins, members of the Eat Well Be Active group and representatives from Food Active came together to pledge further commitment towards promoting healthy weight across the borough.

The Partner Pledge contains a set of commitments which organisations will pledge to work towards to impact not only on the health and wellbeing of their staff and clients, but also the wider community. The pledge aims to support the actions of the Council’s Declaration on Healthy Weight, which was adopted in February 2019.

West Cheshire’s very own Eat Well Be Active group has been integral in the development of the pledge and the commitments, and today as a group have signed up together. This pledge strengthens the group’s commitment to working with and supporting the Council to promote healthy weight.

Members of the Eat Well Be Active group who have pledged their support include:
  • Active Cheshire
  • Brio Leisure
  • Chester School Sport Partnership
  • Edsential
  • Ellesmere Port School Sports Partnership
  • Healthbox
  • The Mersey Forest
  • The Welcome Network
  • Vale Royal School Sport Partnership
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of the Council and Chair of Eat Well Be Active, said:
“Having more partners show their support to the Council’s Healthy Weight Declaration represents another significant step in our joint efforts to promote healthy weight in west Cheshire.

“As the chair of the Eat Well Be Active Group, I know how important and useful partnership working can be in driving change and improving the health and wellbeing of our residents. It is fantastic to see all of our members pledging their commitment to promoting healthy weight in their establishments, and working to support the council with their ambitions too.”

Matthew Philpott, Executive Director at Food Active, said:
“It’s reassuring to see west Cheshire’s continued commitment to promoting healthy weight. Today’s launch of the partner pledge highlights the flexibility of the Healthy Weight Declaration, allowing partners to unite and tackle obesity.

“Together we can support residents, employees, service users, schools, businesses and other organisations. Signing this pledge signals a determination to support local communities to make healthier lifestyle choices easier.”

Clare Olver from Mersey Forest and Vice Chair of Eat Well Be Active said:
“We are delighted to show our support to the council’s Healthy Weight Declaration and by pledging to our own commitments to support better health and wellbeing within our own establishment.

“We believe that only by working together can we truly start to have a positive impact on the residents of west Cheshire. We all have a responsibility and a role to play to help more residents maintain a healthy weight and today marks our continued commitment to this.”
