Council runs workshop to help SMEs grow globally
5 October 2018Businesses who have only ever sold their goods within the UK are to get advice on how to export overseas.Changes to trading conditions following Brexit may mean companies who have never considered exporting now feel the time is right to branch out internationally. The Council is delivering a workshop on the 11 October at Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel, from 9.30am-12.30pm to help businesses learn how to start to e-export or to build relationships with businesses in other countries. Businesses working with advanced manufacturing technology and energy are particularly welcome. This workshop is one of a series part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which the Council has been delivering since February covering a number of topics including GDPR, finance, branding, websites and social media. Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, said: “The workshop will help businesses to start exporting by offering useful hints and tips. Online technology means even small businesses can sell their goods around the world. “Exporting can really benefit a business and effective use of online activity can open up global sales opportunities.” It is an interactive workshop which will look at how companies develop from accidental exporters to confident players in the world of international trade. Tips will be given on how to get started. The workshop is being run during Exporting Week and has been organised by the Council in partnership with the Department of International Trade, Government body for UK businesses exporting and importing. Veronica Dawson and Sara Pomfret, International Trade Advisers for Department of International Trade (DIT) North West, will also be in attendance to offer advice and assistance to companies and provide an overview of DIT services to help businesses succeed in a global marketplace. Veronica said: “A survey undertaken by the DIT on SME activity concluded that 75% of export focused businesses were profitable, 79% of those agreed that accessing export markets had enabled them to achieve fuller capacity and 66% believed that their exporting activity had encouraged them to be more innovative with their products and services. Sara and I look forward to meeting with companies and help with their exporting aspirations.” If you would like to book onto this workshop or any of the ERDF workshops taking place up until November please register on http://eventpilot.evolutive.co.uk/events.aspx?siteId=73 or email business@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.
