Whitby Park helter skelter returns

15 July 2019

A new bespoke helter skelter has been installed in Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port. The project to replace the helter skelter was made possible thanks to a funding boost from The Veolia Environmental Trust.

Cheshire West and Chester Council was awarded a grant of £20,000 towards the purchase and installation with the remaining £10,000 coming from the Council.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of the council and Cabinet Member, Wellbeing said:  “This is great news that Whitby Park now has its iconic helter skelter back.
Residents were extremely disappointed that it was removed due to safety reasons and they can now enjoy this bespoke slide once more.
“It’s fantastic that Veolia awarded us this money to allow us to reinstate it.”

The grant was one of 27 awarded in December by the Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund. Since the scheme began The Trust has awarded over £1.6m to 63 projects across Cheshire.

Head of Grants at The Veolia Environmental Trust, Elizabeth Cooke, said: “We’re glad that we are able to support this project with a Landfill Communities Fund grant, seeing the continued enjoyment of the play area and new helter skelter by this and future generations."
