Helter skelter returning to Whitby Park
9 January 2019A new bespoke helter skelter will be installed this spring in Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port. The project to replace the helter skelter has received a funding boost from The Veolia Environmental Trust.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has been awarded a grant of £20,000 towards the purchase and installation with the remaining £10,000 coming from the Council.
The bespoke slide which will be a more modern design than the one removed due to safety reasons is planned to be installed in the spring.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member Communities and Wellbeing said: “This is great news, which will now mean we can replace a much loved piece of play equipment in Whitby Park, the only helter skelter in a Cheshire West play area.
“Whitby Park has been used by generations of families and the helter skelter is the one iconic piece of equipment that people remember fondly, and now we can bring a new one for future generations.
“It’s fantastic that Veolia has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to be able to install it soon.”
The grant is one of 27 awarded in December by the Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund. Since the scheme began The Trust has awarded over £1.5m to 62 projects across Cheshire.
Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, said: “We’re glad that we are able to support this project with a Landfill Communities Fund grant, seeing the continued enjoyment of the play area and new helter skelter by this and future generations."
